Description What is Epitalon? Epitalon (also spelled Epithalone) is a synthetic tetrapeptide — just four amino acids long — developed by Russian gerontologist Professor Vladimir Khavinson. It is based on a naturally occurring compound called Epithalamin, which is produced by the pineal gland. Epitalon has attracted significant attention in longevity research because of one specific ability: it has been shown to activate telomerase — the enzyme that maintains and extends telomeres. Telomeres are the protective caps on the ends of chromosomes that shorten every time a cell divides. When telomeres become too short, the cell can no longer divide and either becomes dysfunctional or dies. This process is considered one of the primary mechanisms of aging.
