Fantastic collection for a beginning hobbyist! Since the main page only lists the names of the parts, I thought I’d offer a little extra details about what each of these does and why you might want this collection: These are all voltage regulators. Each one can take a wide range of input voltages and convert it to a particular output voltage. With one of these, you can take any old AC adapter you have lying around and use it to power your project without having to worry about the specific voltage it outputs. It’s worth noting, however, that the input voltage must be larger than the output voltage for all of these. Each type employs internal current limiting, thermal shut down and safe operating area protection, making it essentially indestructible. If adequate heat sinking is provided, they can deliver over 1A output current. L78 Series Basic positive voltage regulators • L7805: 7 to 20v input, 5v output • L7806: 8 to 21v input, 6v output • L7809: 11.5 to 24v input, 9v output • L7808: 10.5 to 23v input, 8v output • L7812: 14.5 to 27v input, 12v output • L7815: 17.5 to 30v input, 15v output • L7824: 27 to 38v input, 24v output L79 Series Negative voltage regulators. • L7905: -7v to -20v input, -5v output • L7906: -9v to -21v input, -6v output • L7908: -10 to -23v input, -8v output • L7909: -1.5 to -23v input, -9v output • L7912: -15.5 to -27v input, -12v output • L7915: -18 to -30v input, -15v output Lm Series These ones are special – the output voltage is adjustable based on what resistors you have connected to it. (Or, you could connect a potentiometer and have a knob that changes the output voltage!)
